Wenea is deploying 150 chargers in Plymouth Council to promote sustainable mobility

  • The deployment is part of Connect Plymouth, a new sustainable transport initiative by the city
  • Wenea will provide 300 parking spaces with 150 chargers
  • The project aims to promote and simplify the decarbonisation of transport

MADRID, 30 March 2023 – Wenea, the Spanish electric vehicle user services firm offering smart charging solutions, is deploying 150 chargers across the coastal city of Plymouth as part of the Connect Plymouth project, a new network of facilities that aims to change citizens’ travel habits by making it as easy as possible for them to choose low-carbon options for getting around.

The initiative, which is supported by the Department for Transport’s Transforming Cities Fund, offers new, more sustainable ways of getting around the city, using sustainable  ways of transportation, which will include buses, trains, ferries, walking and cycling routes. As part of this project, Wenea is installing 150 chargers in 300 parking spaces throughout the city to encourage the transition to electric mobility.

To complete the range of mobility options for citizens, Beryl Bikes has joined the initiative with a fleet of 500 electric bikes for rent at more than 90 locations across the city, while  Co Cars will manage a fleet of electric vehicles in Plymouth, powered by our charging points.

José Contreras, UK Director of Wenea, said: “Wenea is very proud to be part of Connect Plymouth, an initiative that greatly improves access to sustainable transport in the city. By delivering 150 chargers in Plymouth, supported by our easy-to-use app, we are removing a critical barrier preventing residents from using electric vehicles. This will reduce carbon emissions, improve air quality and create a more enjoyable transport experience in Plymouth.”

Gustavo A. Prince, UK Operations Director at Wenea, added: “At Wenea, we believe it is our responsibility to contribute to a more sustainable future, which is why we are excited to be involved in the Connect Plymouth project, as it aligns perfectly with our mission to promote and simplify the decarbonisation of transport.”
