First deployment under Deletti, with further expansions planned across Devon

Devon, December 2nd — Wenea, as part of the Deletti EV infrastructure funding initiative headed up by Devon County Council (DCC) with participation from other regional councils across Devon has successfully launched 14 new electric vehicle (EV) chargepoints. The first chargepoints were deployed in collaboration with Torbay Council and Mid Devon District Council, while others will be commissioned alongside East Devon District Council, Teignbridge District Council, South Hams District Council, West Devon District Council, and Kenton Parish Council. This forms part of a broader initiative to increase EV charging accessibility across the county, while connecting rural areas. This milestone marks the official launch of the project, with more chargepoints planned in future phases that will complement Wenea’s existing deployment in Devon.
The Deletti project is dedicated to providing practical charging solutions that encourage the use of electric vehicles, especially for residents without off-street parking. Strategically placed across Devon, these initial chargepoints offer convenient access for residents – especially those who rely on on-street parking – while tourists, residents and businesses will benefit throughout Devon. This will help to meet the growing demand for EV infrastructure in the county prescribed by DCC’s Electrical Vehicle Charging Strategy.
The launch of this second project in Devon represents the growing strategic collaboration between Wenea and local authorities in the county, with a shared mission to advance sustainable transportation and support the county’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. This initial deployment includes a combination of mostly rapid but also standard charging installations, allowing for versatile charging options tailored to varying local needs and dwell times.
Commenting on the progress, Nick Barton, Project Manager, stated:“Working alongside teams from across the various Devon councils we are rolling out rapid charging in areas where there has been little to none up until now, providing EV users with charging provision where it is most needed.”
Wenea’s Director of Operations, Gustavo Prince said:“Wenea is committed to delivering a comprehensive network of EV charging stations across Devon, with the goal of encouraging the take-up of EVs in the county and supporting the tourism industry. Devon’s EV Charging Strategy identifies that transport represents around one third of Devon’s emissions. We’re proud to deliver infrastructure that will contribute to a reduction in those emissions and make Devon’s residents more connected.”
