With this development plan, Wenea is positioning itself as a leading electric vehicle charging company in the South West region of England. Madrid, July 13, 2022 – Wenea, a Spanish company providing a fully integrated for new electric vehicle customers, has begun activating its charging network in the UK. With more than 500 chargers in its deployment plan, last week it was present at the inauguration event of the most powerful electric vehicle charging superhub in Europe, Energy Superhub Oxford.

Energy Superhub Oxford The opening of this charging center, located in Redbridge Park & Ride, Oxford, is a major step forward in the company’s development plan in the country. The initiative, led by the British energy company Pivot Power, also includes other big names in the electric mobility sector such as Fastned or Tesla and can charge up to 400 vehicles simultaneously, thanks to its 10 MW of power.

This project, to which Wenea has contributed 20 charging points of up to 22 kW, is part of Oxford City’s emissions reduction plans, which aims to achieve zero emissions by 2040.

In the words of its director in the UK, Jose Contreras “This project is the perfect example of collaboration between public and private transport, offering different types of charging services to meet the needs of all electric vehicle drivers. At Wenea we are very proud to participate in this initiative, providing the Park & Ride with a service that allows them to visit Oxford by public transport while they can leave their EV charging.”

Expansion plan and new projects. The company, which started its first EV project in 2018, after winning the Innovate UK innovation award in relation to urban rapid charging networks, and which is part of the Diggia group that has been operating in the UK since 2013, has worked during these years in different sustainable innovation projects with public entities such as the NHS (National Health Service) or UKRI (UK Research and Innovation) and has won several public tenders for the deployment of a public charging network; thus positioning itself as a leader in electric charging in the English southwest and as a partner with guarantees for public entities.

Wenea also has charging stations already operational in Scotland, in the locations of Carrutherstown and Peebles; and plans for deployment in the English counties of Devon and Herefordshire with a presence in cities such as Plymouth and Exeter.

Under the Innovate UK project, Wenea is deploying 100 chargers in the city of Exeter and will deploy 100 more in the rest of the county of Devon between 2022 and 2024. With power ratings of between 50 and 150kW, the first chargers are expected to be operational during the third quarter of 2022. The Plymouth and Herefordshire projects will have 150 chargers and 64 chargers, respectively, with outputs ranging from 50kW to 150kW.

With this ambitious development plan, the company, which is already one of the main players in electric mobility in Spain, is positioning itself in the United Kingdom as a leader in rapid charging and a partner of the main public institutions.

In addition to public charging services for EVs, Wenea also offers private charging and charging management services for private entities such as companies, hotels or vehicle fleets through its own designed and developed digital platform.

As expressed by Alberto Cantero, CEO of Wenea, “We are delighted to be able to take our integrated operation model beyond the borders of Spain and, in particular, to be able to do so in the UK where we have market knowledge, consolidated experience and the best team to face new challenges. The penetration of electric vehicles there is higher than in Spain, with almost 16.1% of the fleet, where 36 million EVs are expected to be on the road by 2040. Our presence in this market allows us to analyze and improve our services and anticipate the needs of the Spanish market.”
