Wenea, in collaboration with Black Country Transport, has completed phase one of the Black Country Transport On-Street Residential Charge point Scheme (BCT ORCS), supported by the Office of Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV). This milestone has seen 18 new EV charge points installed across Wolverhampton, Walsall, Dudley, and Sandwell, offering residents without off-street parking reliable access to EV charging.
With over 100 additional confirmed locations, phases two and three are now in progress, aiming to expand this accessible, sustainable infrastructure throughout the Black Country.
Why the West Midlands? A key region for EV charging expansion
The West Midlands stands out as an ideal location for EV infrastructure for several reasons:

High population density in residential areas
Many residents rely on street parking, which makes accessible on-street chargers essential for supporting EV adoption.

Commitment to net-zero goals
The West Midlands has a strong focus on reducing emissions, aligning with the UK’s broader climate targets. Deploying on-street charging directly supports these goals by making sustainable transportation a viable option for more residents.

Collaborative local authorities
Our partnership with Black Country councils has been crucial. Their commitment to the project has fostered a collaborative environment, ensuring smooth progress and open communication, allowing us to address challenges efficiently.

Pioneering green infrastructure
As a leading area in the UK’s push for green infrastructure, the West Midlands is setting an example of how urban areas can transition to a cleaner transportation model.
How Wenea is contributing to a greener West Midlands
Our charging points provide residents with convenient, low-speed, on-street charging solutions. By focusing on daily EV charging needs, Wenea is bridging the infrastructure gap that often limits EV adoption in areas without private driveways. Our 270+ operational charge points across the UK are part of a growing network that brings sustainable transport options closer to residents.
What’s next? Phases two and three are underway
Building on the success of phase one, Wenea is already moving forward with phases two and three, which will expand coverage to more than 100 locations throughout the region. These future deployments aim to deliver a reliable, convenient charging experience to residents in urban, suburban, and rural areas alike.
“The relationship with the different councils has been highly collaborative, and their support has been instrumental in moving the project forward smoothly. Communication has been open and constructive, allowing us to address any challenges efficiently. Beyond just installing EV charging infrastructure, we’re actively contributing to the community’s broader shift toward greener transportation.”
