What is the difference between a CPO and an EMSP and why it matters to you as an EV driver?

What is a CPO?

A CPO (Charge Point Operator) is the one who physically installs, maintains and manages the charging points. In other words, it ensures that the charger works, is in good condition and is safe. Think of it as theownerof the charger.


What is an EMSP?

The EMSP (eMobility Service Provider) is the one who gives you digital access to that charger: 

The app, the payment system, the location map, the usage history, the customer service… 

It’s your gateway to the entire charging ecosystem.

 

What happens when CPO and EMSP are separated?

Very often, the chargers are from one company (CPO) and the app is from another (EMSP). 
This can lead to a fragmented experience: unusable chargers, unsupported apps, unclear pricing
